The event is hosted by the Livonia Kennel Club and the Oakland County Kennel Club.</p>

<p>More than 6,000 dogs representing 167 breeds will compete at the four-day dog show which includes an all-new beginner Puppy Special Attraction on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 9 am. The new event encourages puppies 4 to 6 months to get in the ring early and is expected to be one of the highlights of the show with 80 puppies registered.</p>
<p>The Michigan Winter Dog Classic will also be packed with special events and attractions, including a chance to meet actor Jon Provost who played Timmy in the original Lassie Television series from 1957-1964. Jon will be available to meet and greet fans Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the show and will sell copies of his book Timmy&#8217;s in the Well: The Jon Provost Story. Joining him will be Laddie, Jr., the 10th generation offspring of Lassie whose father was Lassie #9. Guests are encouraged to bring their cameras for photos.</p>

Visitors may talk face-to- face with experts on any dog-related topic and learn how to buy a purebred dog from a reputable breeder. &#8220;Rescue Row&#8221; is an area of the show featuring rescue groups from all over Michigan representing more than a dozen breeds. Health clinics, obedience tips and a vendor marketplace are also part of the show.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p> Black Farmers around the country are celebrating Martin Luther King Day with a new sense that one element of their dream is close to being fulfilled.  Their long journey to justice reached a major milestone last December.  The <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/12/08/president-obama-signs-claims-resolution-act-2010" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Claims Resolution Act of 2010</a>, signed into law by President Obama, passed unanimously in the Senate and enjoyed overwhelming support in the House of Representatives before President Barack Obama signed the historic legislation which, among other things, delivered a fair settlement to tens of thousands of black farmers discriminated against by the US Department of Agriculture.  </p>
<p><span id="more-966"></span></p>
<p>Republican and Democratic legislators worked across the aisle.  In the Senate, Democratic Senators Reid, Landrieu, Hagan among others worked with Republican Senators Grassley and Kyle and the entire Republican caucus to allow the Senate to speak in one unified voice. In the House of Representatives, then-Speaker Pelosi and the Congressional Black Caucus worked tirelessly with then-Minority Leader John Bohner to ensure that justice would no longer be denied. The commitment of the bipartisan leadership reached its climax when Boehner said, <a href="http://articles.cnn.com/2010-07-22/politics/black.farmers.congress_1_national-black-farmers-association-pigford-settlement-white-farmer?_s=PM:POLITICS" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">&quot;This issue has gone on for almost the 20 years that I&#8217;ve been here, and it needs to be resolved…&quot;</a>.</p>
<p>On Dec. 8, with John Boyd, founder and president of the National Black Farmers Association, sitting in the front row, President Obama signed the bill into law.</p>
<p>“Without a doubt this Martin Luther King Day feels very different than any other,” said Boyd. “Finally, Black Farmers have a taste of what Dr. King’s dream was all about.  Finally, we see our country treating us as equals.  Finally, we see tomorrow as a day of promise, rather than a prison of the past.”  Boyd and black farmers across the nation recognize the initiative and commitment of President Obama and a bi-partisan team of Congressional leaders in doing the right thing.  </p>
<p>During Boyd’s long fight for the settlement, he frequently cited Dr. King’s 1961 essay, “Equality Now: The President Has the Power,” in which the civil rights leader specifically decried discrimination by the USDA. According to Boyd, “Fifty years later, our government is finally bringing to a close this long, sad chapter in our nation’s history and opening a new chapter of hope and healing.”</p>
<p>“I, along with thousands of farmers, feel validated for standing with good people who I knew would do the right thing.  I stood for the President, when he was a Senator running for office, because I believed he understood the plight of the poor.  Coming from an agricultural state like Illinois, I knew he would understand the plight of farmers.  The same for Senator Grassley – I endorsed the Senator because he is a farmer who understands what happened to minority farmers in the United States was wrong&#8230;”, said Boyd.  “Finally, our Courts will have an opportunity to approve the settlement, which calls for a fair, neutral process that finally allows for late-filling black farmers from Pigford 1, already on file with the Pigford 1 Claims Administrator, the opportunity to have their claims determined on their merits,” added Boyd.  “This case has never been about reparations – it’s been about justice. The settlement was carefully tailored to ensure that only blacks who farmed, or attempted to farm, between 1981 and 1996, filed late in Pigford 1, and complained to USDA that the agency had racially discriminated against them have the opportunity to have their claim heard.”</p>
<p>The settlement agreement allows for no payments to be made to any farmers until the Court approves the settlement, all eligible claimants submit fully completed claim forms explaining the merits of their claims, and an impartial claims administrator and neutral party review and determine that the claim is meritorious.  Attorneys anticipate that this <a href="http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/faces-2010/2010/dec/27/tdmain01-faces-of-2010-john-w-boyd-jr-ar-737857/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">process will take several years</a> with no payment to black farmers under the <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/12/08/president-obama-signs-claims-resolution-act-2010" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Claims Resolution Act of 2010</a> to occur until late 2012 at the earliest.  The settlement includes a number of anti-fraud provisions to make certain that only legitimate claims are paid.  </p>
<p>Potential claimants should also be advised to avoid any and all groups who require a subscription or sign-up fee to become part of the settlement. “After all of the blood, sweat and tears that went into getting black farmers an opportunity to be treated fairly, it would be a shame for anyone to take advantage of these poor people.  No one can or should pay anything to get into this suit, not $100 &#8211; nothing!  Either a claimant meets the class definition or he/she does not.” </p>
<p>Boyd went on to say, “Farmers need to be careful – get the facts.  Anyone who says there will be quick money is wrong.  You have a case or you don’t. Dr. King wanted fairness and equality – not a hand out.  That’s what we want…fairness.  We have fought for legitimate claims to be paid, nothing more nothing less.”</p>

This is according to new research by ProtectMyID, Experian&#8217;s identity-protection service. &#160;</p>
<p><span id="more-964"></span></p>
<p>According to this latest research:</p>
<p>- Nearly two thirds (65%) of smartphone users send and store e-mails on their phones &#8211; even if these include sensitive information such as receipts and credit card details from shopping online.</p>
<p>- More than half (53%) of smartphone users access social networking sites from their phones. This could easily reveal key pieces of information like names, dates of birth and other details commonly used as passwords for online banking and other accounts, such as first school or place of birth.</p>
<p>- Nearly one third (29%) of smartphone users take advantage of public Wi-Fi hotspots (often found in city centres, used whilst having a break from the shops) which are unsecure and highly vulnerable to electronic eavesdroppers.</p>
<p>- Of these, one in five (19%) say they conduct online banking while using public Wi-Fi, risking their accounts, PINs and passwords.</p>
<p>The Home Office found that mobile phone <a href="http://www.protectmyid.co.uk/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">identity fraud</a>, rose by three quarters (74%) in the first half of last year* but more than half of the smartphone users who took part in the <a href="http://www.protectmyid.co.uk/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Protect My ID</a> survey were completely unaware of the problem.</p>
<p>&#8220;The personal information on an average smartphone is like gold dust to an ID thief and many of us could be putting this on a plate by using public Wi-Fi networks,&#8221; said Peter Turner, Managing Director of Experian Interactive. &#8220;A criminal can use this information to masquerade as the phone&#8217;s owner, drain his or her accounts, run up debts in their victim&#8217;s name and even open new accounts.</p>
<p>&#8220;Often, the first people know about it is when they receive a demand for payment for services they haven&#8217;t used or for an account they have never heard of. We&#8217;ve certainly seen cases where criminals have changed the address of the smartphone, ordered new handsets and run up huge bills.&#8221;</p>
<p>As many as 10,000 smartphones are also stolen every month, according to the Metropolitan Police**, so it really makes sense for users to take sensible <a href="http://www.protectmyid.co.uk/howidentityprotectionworks.aspx" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">identity protection</a> precautions to keep their personal information safe.</p>

This year&#8217;s GSX marked Cisco&#8217;s first major hybrid global event, fusing both virtual and physical components into a seamless interactive experience for 21,000 participants around the world.</p>

<p>Cisco wanted to use new forms of storytelling to focus their sales staff on company-wide collaboration, creativity and new products while engaging them in the company&#8217;s annual sales meeting. <p>This year’s Attorneys of the Year will be featured in a special section in Minnesota Lawyer and during an awards dinner on February 24, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Minneapolis.</p>
<p>Paul, a leading and well-known attorney in northern Minnesota, specializes in wrongful death and personal injury law. He has expertise in cases involving medical malpractice, as well as auto accidents, catastrophic personal injury and product liability. He is Managing Partner of the firm’s Duluth office.</p>
<p>Aside from his busy practice, he also finds time to give back to the profession and the community. He has served as past president of both the Duluth Trial Lawyers Association and the Eleventh District Bar Association. Tens of thousands more  women will have precancerous cells treated.  Women’s Oncology Research &amp; Dialogue is committed this January to raising awareness of this preventable, detectable and treatable disease to all women in the United States.  </p>
<p><span id="more-949"></span></p>
<p>In 2010, <a href="http://www.wordoncancer.org" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Women&#8217;s Oncology Research &amp; Dialogue (WORD)</a> set out to create an effective <a href="http://wordoncancer.org/cms/word-site/gynecologic-cancers/cervical-cancer/about-hpv" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Human Pampilloma Virus (HPV)</a> and cervical cancer women&#8217;s health education campaign.   In short WORD wanted to make sure all girls and women could make informed health decisions about the HPV vaccine, annual exams, pap tests and the HPV test. Through a series of excellent partners including <a href="http://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/rche/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Purdue University</a>, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0098132/http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0098132/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">David Bossert</a> of Madison Beach Productions, <a href="http://duckstudios.com/index.php" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Duck Studios</a> and <a href="http://www.publicisindianapolis.com/http://www.publicisindianapolis.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Publicis Group</a>, WORD was able to create a comprehensive health education program. </p>
<p>In 2011, WORD is working toward an extremely ambitious but necessary goal: distribute this life-saving information to 15 states and 30 cities.   “This campaign is the first of many campaigns to be created by the WORD team.  We hope to partner with many individuals and organizations to see these new resources used in communities throughout the United States and ultimately the world” says Nathan Manahan, Executive Director of WORD.  </p>
<p>January is Cervical Health Awareness Month.  WORD encourages individuals and organizations to see how they might utilize the WORD on HPV campaign resources throughout the next year.  This campaign includes an original four minute animated short story, posters, brochures, magnets, rack cards, 30 and 60 second radio spots, 15 and 30 second broadcast SD/HD television spots, web site and informative survivor and expert videos. <p>Regular administration of Pap tests is the best means of detecting cervical cancer at an early stage.  The addition of the HPV test further advances our ability to detect cervical cancer early.  Furthermore, HPV vaccines have the potential to protect women from the disease, by targeting cancer-causing types of the HPV.  “With the advancement of the HPV vaccine in women’s health and in cancer prevention we may have the first opportunity to literally eradicate cervical cancer&quot; says John P. Geisler, MD, chairman of the WORD medical advisory panel and chief of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Toledo Medical Center. “We are all hopeful that that between the vaccines, pap tests and the HPV, test we will see the eradication of cervical cancer around the world in our lifetime.” </p>
